Which are the new IITs of India?

in: India

IIT-KGP.jpgWhen I was engineering student in NIT Bhopal, there were only 6 IITs in India. Now we have 14 IITs, 7 existing ones, 6 IITs functioning from temporary campuses and 3 are proposed ones. Most of the IITs and NIT’s were created in early 1950’s and 1960’s as the Institutes of national importance through special acts of Indian Parliament. Actually IITs are considered as a factory of great scientists and engineers. Being an IITian is a dream of every science student of India. But only the top brains of India make it to IIT every year through joint entrance examination which is considered as the toughest entrance examination for engineering in world. Almost every Indian state has one NIT, likewise government of India has plans to open at least one IIT for each state.
